Taking its name from Maserati’s traditional home in the beautiful Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy, the Grecale Modena delivers all the benefits of a state-of-the-art premium SUV with a certain timeless elegance that will be particularly appreciated by those who love to savour time in the great outdoors. As in the GT Hybrid version, it is fitted with a four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine paired with a 48-V mild hybrid, although in the Modena it is tuned to deliver 325bhp, which is reflected in superior performance, with the 0-62mph time reduced to 5.3 seconds. The stylish look of the Grecale is enhanced on the Modena by 20” alloy wheels, gloss black finish logos, front splitter, grille, window shades and inserts on the side skirts and dark exhausts, while the beautiful Grigio Cangiante launch colour blends amber and mica to mesmerising effect.
Inside, all versions of the Grecale come with four screens – the classic cluster and a new central 12.3” panel, a smaller 8.8” comfort panel with extra controls and a new digital clock. Classic Italian craftsmanship is highlighted in the materials and finishes: the dashboard stitching takes up the double saddle style, as in the Levante, Maserati’s other SUV. Tremendous attention has been paid to the detailing, such as the laser-cut metal grilles for the new Sonus faber sound system’s tweeters and mid-range speakers, or the chrome-plated finish of the digital smartwatch, the central air vents and the drive mode selector. The Modena adds exquisite touches, including inserts available in Dark Ash Burl, an unusual, contemporary wood with a grey tone and an open-pore finish, and assertive alternatives to black leather in the form of dark red or ice, a bright, fresh and light shade.
